3 ozs Red Heart Worsted Weight Yarn.
Beanie = Dark Spruce - 1 skein
Aran - 1 skein
Mittens = Dark Spruce - 1 skein
Aran - 1 skein
Crochet hook size I
Gauge: 7 sc and 8 rows (4 strips) = 2"
Beanie finished size is 18" diameter.
Note: Work in Back Loops only throughout all rows.

With Aran, ch 40 loosly.
Row 1: Sc in back ridge of second ch from hook and each ch across changing to Dark Spruce in last sc make: 39 sc.
Row 2: (Right side): Ch 1, turn; sc in first 34 sc, leave rem 5 sc unworked.
Note= Mark first sc on last row as right side and bottom edge.
Row 3: Turn; skip first sc, sc in each sc across changing toAran in last sc made: 33sc.
Row 4: ch 1, turn; sc in first 33 sc, sc in end of first row on last Dark Spruce stripe and in rem 5 sc on previous Aran stripe: 39sc.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across changing to Dark Spruce in last sc made.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 29sc, leave rem 10 sc unworked.
Row 7: Turn; skip first sc, sc in each sc across changing to Aran in last sc made: 28sc.
Row 8: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 28 sc, sc in end of first row on last Dark Spruce stripe and in rem 10 sc on previous Aran strips: 39sc.
Row 9: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across changing to Dark Spruce in last sc made.
Row 10: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 34 sc, leave rem 5 sc unworked.
Rep Rows 3-10 until piece measures approx 18" from beg. ch, ending by working Row 8; do NOT finish off.
JOINING= With right sides of first and last rows tog and working in free loops of beg ch and through inside loops of sc on last row at the same time, sl st in first 23 sts, turn Beanie right side out; with wrong sides of first and last rows tog and working in free loops of beg ch and through inside loops of sc on last row at the same time, sl st in last 16 sts; finish off.
Weave a 12" length of Aran throught end of each row at top of Beanie; gather tightly and secure ends. With Dark Spruce, make a 2 + 1/2" pom-pom and sew to top of Beanie.
EDGING= Rnd 1: With wrong side facing and working in end of rows, join Dark Spruce with sc in last row, sc in each row around; join with sl st to first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, working from left to right and working in both loops work a reverse sc in each sc around; join with sl st to first st, finish off.
NOTE= To work a reverse single crochet working from left to right *insert hook in stitch to right of hook, yo and draw through, under and to left of loop on hook (2 loops on hook), yo and draw through both loops on hook; rep from *.

Finished size is 7" from wrist to fingertips.
Like Beanie, work only in back loops throughout.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 10 sc, sl st in next 5 sl sts, sc in next 23 sc, sl st in next 4 sl sts, sc in next 23 sc, sl st in next 5 sl sts, sc in last 10 sc, changing to Aran in last sc made.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 10sc, sl st in next 5 sl sts, sc in next 23 sc, sl st in next 4 sl sts, sc in next 23 sc, sl st in next 5 sl sts, sc in last 10 sc.
